| About Us
Dover Little League was founded in 1961
and has been providing Little League baseball to the children of Dover
at various locations until we moved into our permanent home in 1988.
We have two wonderful private ball
fields for Little Leaguers ages 9-12 in Dover, NH. Both of the fields are meticulously taken care of. They both have irrigation systems and are complete
with enclosed dugouts, scoreboards, announcer’s booths, and a very popular concession stand, a favorite of the kids
as well as many of the adults.
The two fields are named after local
people.
Gabarro Field is named after one of our
former
players, 12 year old Pete Gabarro, who died in 1994 having battled
bravely with cancer. Pete had played in our league, and the manner in
which he carried himself during his struggle embodies the strength and
dignity that all children involved with us are encouraged to strive
towards.
Murray Field is named after one Dover
Little League's earliest and longest serving members, Peter J. 'Red'
Murray. If you have been to Red's Shoe Barn here in Dover, you know a
little about 'Red' already!
We currently have 6 little league teams that support upwards of 70 children from Dover. We
begin our spring training in or around the middle of April, and our regular season starts in May and runs through June. The All Star Teams (9-10 yr
old) and (11-12 yr old) begin play in the month of July.
There are no 'try-outs' as everyone does
get to play. We have never turned a child away because they have wanted
to play baseball. There are however, player evaluations. This is not to
be considered a 'try-out' by any stretch of the imagination.
We add players to our current rosters by a
draft method. Similar to Major League style, teams with a weaker record pick
first. We ask that all new players attend player evaluations in order to
aid Managers make an informed decision when it comes to Draft Night. if
you have any questions on this system, let us know.
Typically games are weeknights with one
game per field. On Saturday's it is the same, but with the occasional
make up game/double header. Most teams can expect to play at least three
time per week. Please see past schedules for examples.
